Changing a Summer Scene to a Winter Scene

As an artist, we have the wonderful opportunity to take one of our reference photos from one season and paint it as a different season.

This is a photo I took back in the summer of 2007.

Because I was in the mood to paint a winter scene, I decided to change it. I added snow, changed up the trees in the background and took the liberty of adding a cute little chick-a-dee to the fence post.

Don’t be limited by your reference photos. Feel free to change the seasons, move elements around, delete unwanted elements, and add others.

Have fun re-imagining a scene!

  1. Annie, I love it when you post things like this. I’ve been working on not being limited by a reference photo and learning how to change things up. I’m so happy to get your take on it.

    • Robin, I am glad you found it helpful. I think part of the fun of painting can be in recomposing a scene. Thanks for the comment.
