I was recently blessed to be able to attend a demo and watercolor workshop with Susan Crouch held at the High Country Watermedia Society’s August meeting. She has graciously give me permission to post these images of paintings completed in her workshops. All of these designs are the copyrighted property of Susan Crouch.
Below is my painting from this workshop.
I met Susan about nine years ago at the Valle Fair in Valle Crucis and since that time we have become good friends. I fell in love with her beautiful watercolors full of glorious color and absolutely loved her “Tender Mercies” collection of small prints with Scripture.
With a focus on light and color, Susan’s workshop explore ideas for interpreting the subjects of nature in watercolor. She teaches in a step-by-step approach for planning your composition that includes working with photos, creating a value sketch, and selecting colors for your painting. Drawings and reference photos are provided so you can paint along as Susan demonstrates. Each year new demos are created to provide skills that can be adapted to your own unique painting process.
Susan’s paintings have been published in Splash 12, Splash 14, Splash 18, and International Artist Magazine. She is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina. Her techniques are featured in the DVD, Painting in Living Color: Carolina Morning.
Here is a photo of Susan with her “Art Momma” Edrie Knight taken at the workshop. Edrie was Susan’s first watercolor instructor over 25 years ago.
Susan is a great instructor. She is well prepared, organized, explains things very well, and a real encourager. I have taken five workshops with Susan, and have learned something new each time. I consider her my “art momma” and mentor.
These are a some of the paintings I have painted in her previous workshops:
